Winter Ianisms

Evidence that our kid is a downtown kid
Ian spotted the following ornament on our Christmas tree:

Evidently Ian was thinking about the panhandlers he's seen by the side of the road with signs, because he said, "Mommy, that teddy bear is asking for cash!"

Ianite the shopper

We took Ian shopping for a winter coat to replace one that he had lost (OK, that Daddy had lost on Ian's behalf on the recent trip to Long Island). He tried on a coat that had a tag sewn right at the opening of the sleeve. Ian found this inconvenient.
Ian: Why is this tag here?
Daddy: The tag tells us what this is.
Ian: Daddy, everyone knows it's a jacket.

Ian and the Winter Wonderland
We went to the downtown Durham winter children's festival. They had a Christmas parade with marching bands, arts and crafts stations (courtesy of Home Depot), face painting, food trucks, bouncy houses (preferably not in that order), and, of course, Santa Claus. They also had sledding on manufactured snow, since the weather was warm enough to not require a jacket. Here is Ian going down the run and having a slight wipeout fail at the end:

The video was truncated because I hurried down to right him on his sled so he could finish his run. Afterward, I observed that he had some snow on his pants. He said, "Daddy, I have many tiny icicles on my bum!"

Molly and I had been walking downtown earlier that day and saw the hill with the snow on it and people sledding, but it was before most of the stuff was set up. Then on Monday Ian was telling me about how he went to a hill where they put snow that didn't melt and he went sledding. We were able to talk about it and deduce that we went to the same event, only I went there earlier. It's always neat to have such conversations with such a little boy!
