(from late September) Lukas has been out and about a lot the last few weekends, in part because of Ian's busy schedule on the birthday party circuit. Last Sunday we did many things, including going as a family to the bike shop to get Doug's bike chain fixed (it broke while he was out for a long ride and we had to go pick him up). There was a balance bike for sale in front of the shop that Lukas seemed very at home on:

After a morning in which he spent much of his time either sleeping in his crib, eating in a high chair, going for a walk in a stroller, or in the car in his carseat, Lukie was very ready to get back to his favorite activity -- walking. Ian had a birthday party to attend at the Museum of Life and Science, so we dropped him off and Lukas and I spent and hour and half walking the boardwalk in the Explore the Wild part of the museum. We didn't get to the bear exhibit or anything else, but he had a great time walking, collecting pine needles, and peeking between the boards.

This weekend, Ian had another birthday party to attend, during which I took Lukas to eat lunch at Elmo's (our favorite family-friendly Durham restaurant). He can pack in some food. He had a large pancake (what Ian typically eats as his entire meal at Elmo's), three scrambled eggs, some of my omelet veggies, and a cup of milk. He was very upset when we first sat down that the zippy cup I brought for him was empty. He banged it on the table demanding "Milk! Milk! Milk!" (though not everyone would recognize is as such). I guess he doesn't understand the idea of a waitstaff yet . . . The Elmo's staff supplied Lukas with crayons and the classic Elmo's duck to color. He is very interested in crayons, but more for their non-coloring properties so far.
