Life of the Party

Our main reason for choosing this particular weekend to visit Long Island was to attend Ian's Great-Aunt Maureen's 70th birthday party. As we arrived and Ian clung to me and made grumpy faces at everyone who greeted him, I wondered if we should have gotten a babysitter. But some of his cousins (Amanda and Shannon pictured here) came over to see him and, as he saw that they shared his interest in maracas, he began to warm up:

Ian quickly got into a very social mode, and had a blast for hours at the party. Somewhat to our surprise, he spent quite a bit of time on the dance floor (we have no idea where his dancing abilities came from, they must not be genetic!). Here he is dancing with cousin Pablo, later he also danced several songs on his own two feet. Aunt Maureen is pictured in the bottom right - as you can see she is still up for plenty of dancing (and in fact we saw pictures of her crossing the rainforests of Costa Rica on a zipline just a few weeks ago!):

He met lots of people, and by the end of the night was dancing and wandering off with perfect strangers (I don't know who this is returning Ian to me, but she assured me that she had lots of grandchildren, so I knew he was in good hands):

It was great to see that Ian enjoys social interaction so much. Hopefully he'll continue to be a social boy as he gets older.

Now that I look at the pictures of Ian when he is bigger it is impossible to imagine him turning out any other way. It's like he is so quintessentially Ian that I wonder how I didn't envision him looking like this last summer when I held him as a newborn and wondered what kind of boy he'd grow into.
I'm glad he can dance, it's sexy and will get him many dates later on in life!
