Growing Up

It is amazing how fast this boy is growing up. I never realized that he would be so capable and independent before he was 2 years old.

One major development lately is the switch to a toddler bed. After Ian started climbing out of his crib, we quickly converted it to a toddler bed. Ian "helped" Doug do the work on the bed with one of his favorite things - "tools!". And he remembers. On a daily basis, he gets a tool of some sort or a screw and continues the work on his bed:

Don't be fooled, he's not sleeping:

Then place the screw:

Sleeping in the bed has gone relatively smoothly (he doesn't seem traumatized), although we've had trouble this week getting him to sleep without a very extended bedtime routine. Several nights only Daddy has been able to get him to go to his bed and fall asleep. So far this weekend getting to bed has been going more easily.

Ian has also been gaining independence in lots of areas. He regularly dismisses me with a "bye-bye", clearly intending to prevent me from helping him. He often surprises us by what he can do. This morning he was playing on his own while I cooked (also a new thing, much appreciated), and put this train track together all by himself (he has been able to build with Duplos for a while, but the train tracks are trickier):

We look forward to continuing to see Ian's skills develop. It's a little sad to see our baby disappear, but we are enjoying our young boy.

And the house looks so neat and picked up. Maybe that is another of Ian's talents.
