Lukas–Months 2 and 3

The last two months have been consumed by purchasing and moving into a new house.  Documenting Lukas’s young life has fallen by the wayside a bit.  Fortunately, despite a very difficult house buying process, the new place seems like it will be a spectacular fit for us and elevate the quality of life for the whole family, including Lukas.  I’m particularly happy that we’re settled before he’s mobile – I think it will be easier for me, him, and Ian, who will now have more of his own space for things and activities that need to stay away from a little brother.  More on the house later.  First, a photo review of the last two months.

We didn’t do a great job photographing him the day he turned 3 months old, but we do have this adorable photo of Ian feeding him for the first time:

Three weeks later, on Halloween, was the next time we took pictures.  This was three days after we moved into the new house.

Ian was a carpenter:

Lukas was Elvis (after all, he has the hair, including sideburns, for it):

A week later, another important event happened – Ian saw Star Wars for the first time.  When we moved to the new house, I asked Ian how he wanted to decorate his room.  I suggesting themes of ocean, planes, or Curious George.  In the process, he saw photos of other wall decals on Amazon and insisted that he wanted Darth Maul “because he’s a really mean fighter”.  This goes along with his general obsession with weaponry and fighting lately.  At his parent-teacher conference we confirmed that this is very typical of boys his age.  So he now has a Star Wars themed room.  Being extremely curious, he then began grilling Doug about the characters, particularly which ones die and how (similarly, a Presidents puzzle led me to a review of presidential assassination attempts with Ian last month).  Eventually it seemed like seeing the movies made sense, even though we would not have planned to introduce them at age 4.  Doug and Ian just finished the first one tonight, after watching parts every night for a week.  Here they are watching the opening scene of the first movie (#4):

We also had a visit from our good friend Hermit Thrush.  Unlike us, she is good about taking LOTS of pictures.  Here she is with Lukas, who is making a “where did the paparazzi come from?” face:

You might notice as we go that Lukas’s hair, which has stuck straight up from birth, is now starting to lay down in the normal fashion.

I have recently started reading books to Lukas before bed and before I leave for work in the morning.  He is invariably intensely interested, and in the mornings when he is beginning to get fussy and ready for his first nap, he is happy the whole time I read (then cries the moment I stop).  Here is his reading-a-book face:

Attention from his big brother always makes him happy:

Our sense right now of Lukas’s temperament is that he’s active but mellow – usually very happy, can entertain himself, but thrilled anytime anyone pays attention to him (they are usually rewarded with his super-big open-mouth smile).  Here he is, happy to show off his new skill (acquired around 3.5 months) – rolling over from back to tummy.  He often does it immediately upon being put down these days:

And today he hits the four month mark.  Here is his official four-month photo, brought to you from his changing table.  (Note the Amherst shirt – Amherst celebrated his four month birthday with a spectacular win over arch-rival Williams, and Lukas joined us in watching it at an alumni event):

Is is possible that Lukas will be bigger than Ian? He's enormous! The house looks beautiful...

We haven't actually seen Lukas since he was a week old. It will be nice to spend some time with both boys when we get there in December. Both of them appear to be growing quickly. It is a relief to see that Lukas' hair is beginning to lie flat.
