Ian’s Songs

Ian’s school, camp, and church experiences have given him quite a repertoire of songs, and he has a good memory for them.  Especially during camp this summer, when they learned new songs to go with the theme each week, he seemed to have a song for everything.  We’d be talking about something, and he’d break out in an appropriate song – water: “Water is essential for life . . . “, breathing “Oxygen is what we breath in, carbon dioxide is what we breath out . . . “, paper towels (my favorite), “One is all you need, need, need.  Please don’t waste the trees, trees, trees.”, and birds (Ian’s favorite):

There are many more that I can’t remember.  He often talks about singing time when we pick him up, and he seems to particularly enjoy it.  He also enjoys making up new (often less appropriate) words for tunes he knows.  For example, the sappy sweet “I love you, you love me” song recently became “I’ll hit you, you hit me . . . “
