Lukas has made it to 2 months! He hasn’t been dropped by his brother, eaten by the pit bulls, been forgotten in the car by his mother, or gotten pneumonia from his father. Hooray!
At his checkup Monday he weighted 15 lbs 5 oz and was 25 inches long. He’s dropped to merely the 96th percentile for weight but still in the 100th for height and head circumference. He’s just a tad smaller than Doug was at 3 months (though it’s hard to compare since breastfed babies have a different growth trajectory – I don’t think we should assume he’ll be bigger than Doug).
His latest interest in staring meaningfully at his hands. He holds them up, slowly rotates them, and can entertain himself for quite a while.
He also likes looking at his mobile. I thought I had put him to bed the other night. Half an hour later, after putting Ian to bed, I checked on him and found him awake, happily staring at the mobile. When he gets really excited about something he’s looking at, he gets his arms and legs kicking fast. Here he is (Kroger sticker courtesy of Ian):
In addition to looking at objects, Lukas is definitely interested in interacting with people, and will now readily smile and coo.
And here is Lukas posing with an old friend. Joey was originally mine (used from a garage sale). Then he became Greg’s, then Ian’s, now Leo’s. While Lukas was spending the day with Leo and Danielle, Greg took this photo of him with Joey, revealing a shocking resemblance.
I’m back at work half time now. I spend all day Wednesday with Lukas and the other days I’m at work until 2pm. The first two weeks he spend with Danielle (and Leo) during this time. Now that we’re into September he’s with Lisa (and her toddler Gavin), who will be his regular nanny. She was Ian’s nanny from age 1-2, when we shared her with his friend Maeve. This time Lisa is at our house, which makes my life easier, since I don’t have to pack Lukas up in the mornings. Lukas seems to be adjusting well to being apart from me, but is always eager to nurse as soon as I get home, even if he’s just finished a bottle. I’m happy I’ll be able to stick to part-time work until early November, and occasionally work from home so I can nurse him during the days. Especially on Wednesdays, I enjoy having the whole day alone with him to spend at a more relaxed pace. Gorgeous fall weather has just descended on Durham, so among our priorities for today is taking the dogs for a nice long walk.
Here is the link to our blog post for Ian at 2 months: http://www.the-life-of-ian.blogspot.com/2008/09/2-months-old.html He looks surprisingly different from Lukas. He had some skills that Lukas does not have (like batting at hanging objects), but had not yet noticed his own hands. He was an inch longer but a bit lighter than Lukas is now.

He is still pretty large. I like the photo of Lukas and Joey. I didn't notice all the similarities until you mentioned it. Unfortunately Joey's hair has never been manageable so I hope that trait doesn't stay with Lukas.
