Ian’s Carpentry

Ian has had a sustained passion for carpentry for months.  It’s hard to get him to stop hammering, sawing, and drilling, even when that means there are nails all over the house, or things nailed into the deck.  He’s done a lot of freeform work, but was getting frustrated that things didn’t fit together well (because he was using random scraps of wood), and we were concerned that there were always nails sticking out every which way.  So Ian and Doug embarked on a box-making project.  This involved Ian acquiring a saw – a mitre saw with a mitre box.  When it was done, Ian decided to give the box to his best friend Ethan for his 5th birthday.

With all his experience, he’s gotten quite good with the hammer (usually he’s wearing goggles when he does this).  You can see him move his hand down to increase power as Daddy taught him.
