Big poop day

I was with Lukas all day today (except for a lunchtime visit to cousin Leo and Danielle) and he made it memorable by making memorable poops. Morning: no poop. After afternoon nap: poop everywhere!!! I can't really blame the diaper. It did a good job containing a lot of poop, but it was just overwhelmed at the sheer volume of poop Lukie had saved up during the poopless morning. Lukas had poop on his hands, smeared all over the crib, and perhaps some around the corner of his mouth. Let me tell you, it is quite the job to wipe down a squirmy poop covered boy (because these days he valiantly resists lying still on the changing table by arching his back and thrashing the whole time). We headed to the bathtub. Late afternoon: before heading over to pick up Ian from school, I changed Lukas's diaper. This time a nice, modest poop. With a mirror in it. Yes. I discovered that it was actually a glue on jewel that Ian got at a pirate birthday part this weekend. The back was very silver and shiny. Clearly Lukas ate it.

He is becoming quite active and getting into everything -- and trying to eat everything. The tricky part is that sometimes I have to look up at Ian during the day. Lukas has a great strategy for using these brief moments to stuff as many small round objects in his mouth as possible. Tonight I was upstairs reading to Lukas at bedtime when I heard frantic "Mommy, Mommy, come here!" from downstairs. There was a tick on Ian's arm and he had a great sense of urgency about it. I was holding Lukas in one arm while I was pulling the tick off Ian, and I discovered at the end that Lukas was quietly consuming Ian's bowl of little cherry tomatoes. Fortunately he did not choke and he seemed to enjoy them. Also he managed to spray tomato seeds over quite an impressive area.

Lily ate one of those jewels too. I saw it on the way in, but I was driving and couldn't stop her. Luke's story gives me hope that Lily's came out at some point.
