Even though we've left the excitement of downtown, we've gained the excitement of wildlife. We often see hawks and sometimes an owl in the yard. A few weeks ago Zrbrt met a large black rat snake. Ian and I have been watching tadpoles grow up in the stream we cross on the way to school. On Monday we saw a small frog scaling the outside of our second story window. On Tuesday Zrbrt found a turtle in the yard. Ian identified it as a box turtle based on his experience at the nature conservancy last week. He also knew how to identify it as a female (golden rather than red eyes), and that it would like a place where it could burrow in leaves. We took her to camp with us to show the other kids, then I let her go in leaves near the stream on the walk home.
