Snow Days

The last few weeks have involved two snow/ice storms that have slowed things down for a few days, as well as the holidays. So, we've spent quite a few days at home with Ian, with limited ability to go out and do things as we normally do. We've played everything we have at home, and invented some new activities. Here are some photos of various activities:

Ian playing his kazoo while wearing an underpants hat while he Skypes with Grandma:

Here Ian and Daddy built a major Lego cantilever balanced by a big tower. When I told Ian I wanted to take a picture he held his leg up to illustrate the concept of balance:

One of several forts, this one with a compartment for Ian and Zrbrt, and a separate section for a sleeping Lilo (Lilo has just been diagnosed with severe arthritis and is probably happy that she got her own section where she was not trampled on by an excited small boy):

Ian and Daddy testing the snow for snowman-readiness:

Reading in bed (Ian's attention span for reading to himself is not nearly as long as Doug's, unfortunately):

A day after the ice storm (different storm than the one pictured above), Ian and I went out late in the day to play in the yard, when things were not quite so slippery. Here he is in his shed:

And this was an interesting ice feature -- the ice was in corrugated form, but extended several inches past the end of the tin roofing:

The back of our house at dusk:

Here I took a picture without the flash (i.e. slow shutter speed) -- Ian is in the picture but appears only as a slight red blur, which shows how much he moves around!:

I finally finished Ian's mittens (the first pair of mittens I've knitted). Here they are:
