Ian's First New Year

Ian, your first New Year was spent in the air somewhere over Washington, DC. But it could have been worse -- we could have been spending the night at JFK.

Our flight home on New Year's Eve was cancelled, and the later flight we were put on was delayed. We arrived at the airport fearing that the second flight would also be cancelled and we would spend the night there. But fortunately, other than a little problem Doug had with security in which the carseat got inextricably wedged in the scanner, things went smoothly.

When we arrived in NY, we admired these seemingly comfy funny big seats in the new terminal. When we got a chance to use them we found them somewhat disappointing. Here Doug is trying to rest after a stressful day, while Ian is scheming about how to finally get his hands on the iPhone:

No doubt 2009 will be a big year for Ian. By next new year he'll be walking and talking, a very different boy. This will be a big year for us in many other ways too -- a pivotal year in the ongoing growth of Doug's business, a year in which I try to balance the demands of full time work with being a good mother, a year in which we try our simple urban living experiment, a year in which Greg builds a cob house, a year in which we (please please please) sell our house!
