In the ongoing sleep saga, a funny moment. Today I put Ian down for a nap when he was clearly tired. Ian has adapted to the Daddy method (at least with me), and now twists his shoulders in such a way that I can't keep him from sitting up in the crib. Since I didn't think I could be helpful, I let him cry for half and hour. Then there was silence. I crept partway up the stairs to see if he was really asleep. I saw him sitting in the crib, head bobbing forward, then jerking up, then bobbing backward, then jerking up. Clearly he would have been fully asleep if he had been lying down! He never did get to sleep on this own -- apparently he couldn't sleep sitting up. But at least I got some amusement out of it!
Update:
Now this is becoming kind of a problem. I went up tonight (after I thought Ian had fallen asleep), and he was still sitting up. The bumping noise we kept hearing was his head hitting the side of the crib when he fell asleep and started to fall over (which, of course, wakes him up). I tried to gently set this mostly-sleeping boy down flat, and woke him up all over again. Maybe we should just let him sleep sitting up all night long??
