Ian Eating

Ian has been eating a ton of food this week. He polished off everything I packed for him to eat during the days much faster than expected. We're expecting a growth spurt. We're trying hard to keep him from acquiring a taste for highly processed or high fat/salt/sugar foods. Hopefully this will make it easier for him to eat healthily throughout his life and enjoy it. He seems to like almost everything, so that makes it easier -- we'll see if this lasts through toddlerhood or not. I packed him half a cup of cooked swiss chard this week and he ate it all in one sitting. He is simiarly passionate about melon, grapes, beans, yogurt, and peas and carrots. Here he has pretty much polished off his Cheerios and cheese and has moved on to a large helping of peas and carrots:

Ian seems to eat pretty neatly for a boy his age. Often he displays the elegent use of a pincer grip to pick up each piece of food and place it in his mouth. When that fails, however, he'll shove it in any way he can:

And here he is taking a break mid-meal:

These are great photos. He is looking so very boy-like. I think his babyhood is over! I think I like him better as a little boy though, he's got a great personality and it's easier to read his body language for me at least and imagine what kinds of thoughts might be going through his head, though we won't know for sure till he starts talking...
