This afternoon Doug took Ian to the park to allow me to spend some child-free time catching up with my friend Kerry (much appreciated!). There are some things to be learned that are best taught by a Daddy. Going down the slide by oneself is apparently one of them. Unlike his previous slide experience, in which I held on to him as he went down, today Ian learned to go down the slide like a real man. Doug documented the process in photos.
Climbing the stairs to get to the top of the slide:

Yay, made it to the top!:

Sitting himself down:

Ready to go!:

The thrill of sliding!:

Made it happily to the bottom:

In addition to the slide pictured above, Ian tried the spiral slide. I infer from the pictures that it didn't go quite as smoothly:

While this park has some spectacular playground equipment, Ian also spend some time with one of his favorite outdoor activities, picking up dirt, gravel, rocks, and leaves. As you can see here, there were plenty of leaves to be had:

Here he is running down a leaf-covered hill (he really is close to being able to run on flat ground as well). Doug told me that Ian was going really fast and looked like he would fall over, but instead of stopping him, Doug decided to document it photographically. Daddy's are like that.:

Those of you who don't live near by will not be aware that we have been suffering the remnants of Hurricane Ida all week -- endless days of cold rain and wind. This weekend has been a welcome respite for everyone, with its sun and 70 degree days. I'm glad Ian has been able to enjoy it, yesterday at the museum with me, today at the park with Daddy!
