Massachusetts - The Allen Weekend

We had one full day in Monterey before heading to the wedding. We took a hike at a nearby state forest (on a very windy, cool day):

Ian brought a rake with him on this hike, which was kind of amusing. He did not have any trouble finding leaves to rake in the forest! He also enjoyed throwing things into the water, and we learned that acorns do not float. He had so much fun doing this that I had to drag him kicking and screaming back to the car before I turned into an icicle. Then we waited a long time in the car before he would get into his carseat so we could go. Toddlers. [Update: I am told that this photo that I mistook to be of our hike was actually of my mother's front yard -- but she is honored that her yard is a convincing forest]:

Ian also had a lot of fun both weekends at the little playground in town:

And Grandpa spent a lot of time (more than an adult could possibly want) out on the cold beach at the lake. Ian is endlessly satisfied raking sand:

And finally, the culminating experience of the trip was the wedding. My first cousin Kelsey got married in a beautiful big old church in Springfield, Mass. Mercifully, the ceremony was lovely and simple, and everyone claims that they never heard Ian singing the ABCs during the prayers. The reception was elegant but included a large number of young boys. Ian had a lot of fun running around and dancing with them. He told everyone who asked that his name was "Chugga-chugga-choo-choo". Hopefully they did not think less of us as parents for giving him such a name. He also claimed that I (in a strapless dress) was naked. Similarly the bride and maid of honor were naked. Ian also (inexplicably) asked my uncle Dale's suit-clad father if he was naked. Ian was far from naked. He was in fact wearing a 6T outfit, at least two sizes too big for him, but hemmed by Grandma. This cute outfit was found at our favorite consignment shop. It may be a bit big now, but at this size we'll use it again and definitely get our $13 worth! Here's Ian and Mommy in our fancy wedding clothes just about to go in for the ceremony:

Now that I asked in a comment on a later posting what kinds of things he does that are silly, I see one example here: saying that his name was "Chugga, Chugga, Choo-choo."
