Daddy and Ian pulled the row boat down to the water together:
And they're off!:
(We went out again the following weekend, but apparently Mommy's rowing skills were unacceptable to Ian and he quickly lost interest.)
The house in Monterey is in a beautiful lakefront location in a nice area. It's a family house that was purchased decades ago by Doug's grandfather, who lived there part of the year during his long retirement. So, it's nice that Ian (the only name-carrying male McVey of his generation!) got to visit this important family location.
Later in the morning the McVey crew arrived from Long Island. Here's everybody at dinner at the traditional Four Brothers:
Aunt Julie is a particular admirer of her nephew, and I was hoping to get some good photos of them together. But, still overtired from his very late night post-travel, Ian was not very cooperative. This is the best it got:
The next day we were worried that a still-tired Ian would be very sad when we left, but Pa had a trick up his sleeve:
It's a boy thing:
This is a very cool car/truck track system from Doug's childhood. The cars go around the double track, but there are also side features where machines load and unload logs onto the trucks, etc. Ian didn't care a bit when we left!:
These trucks and tracks are things that Ian will visit when he sees Grammie and Pa, but Aunt Julie also gave some fun presents to take home. His favorite is a wooden toolbox and toolset. He spent a LOT of time "fixing" the porch and the kitchen chairs in the Monterey cottage!
