Potty Time

Although we were not planning to "officially" start potty training (whatever that means) until Ian turns 2, we've started reading potty themed books, and just got a seat to go on our toilet and a potty for Ian. He seems interested (at least in reading about it), so we'll go with it for now and see what happens. He likes Sam's Potty the best (it shows Sam trying to teach his doggie to sit on the potty, which meshes well with Ian's dog-infused life, but may bode ill for Zrbrt and Lilo!), and also is surprisingly enthralled by Mr. Rogers' potty book, which is quite verbose for a kid his age. Tonight he sat on his seat on our toilet for the first time (nothing happened, but he was happy to be there, which is great). He looked like such a big boy!!

potty training with boys is quite the adventure. i was a full-time nanny for a little boy for about 2 years (age 1-3ish). there are so many different ways and techniques! i just followed his lead, with lots of positive reinforcement from me and it worked out. i think i only did a jelly bean treat once, for his first #2, but other than that, i would get really excited when he made any attempt of going to the bathroom and he responded well. good luck!! oh and he did love "shooting" the cheerios in the water!
