Tools!

A couple weekends ago, Ian made a Saturday trip to Doug's office. There are lots of things to interest a young boy at kDy, and Ian quickly said, "Play with tools, Daddy." Not being one to do meaningless activities, Doug decided that they should do a project that would accomplish something. So, he taught Ian how to tap into a block to cut threads for screws. They drilled a hole in an aluminum block and then used the tap tool. Ian helped.

Later in the week, Doug made holes and tapped for two different sized screws (forgive my inevitable misuse of terms here). He got a small toolbox for Ian and brought it home filled with an assortment of the right sized screws and nuts, along with Allen wrenches and two types of screwdrivers. Needless to say, this is now one of Ian's favorite things to play with. He has learned how to choose the right kind of tool for the screw type, and loves to take the screws in and out, doing his "work". Here he's getting some instruction from Daddy on his technique:
