After our visit to Binghamton, we spent several days in Syracuse with my family. They do live indoors (unlike my brother), but their house is mostly kind of a staging area for what's going on in their yard. It's no bigger than the average suburban yard, but it is teeming with life. My parents passionately believe that a yard should provide food, water, and shelter for birds, frogs, bees, and butterflies, not just be a pesticide laden and lifeless stretch of immaculate grass. We had lunch outside one day, and found this an easy way to take a sleeping Ian with us:

As you can see, he is in the middle of a very habitat-filled yard:

We're thinking he will find this to be a very interesting place when he's a little older, especially because there is a stream and a pond with froggies:

As it was, he found all the stimulation a little tiring:

What is it with putting the boy in laundry baskets? I can't believe he hasn't outgrown that yet!
