Yesterday we had broccoli for dinner. We cut some up for Ian, and were happy to see that he seemed very excited about it. This may have more to do with the fact that it's easy to pick up than the taste (he is becoming impatient with being fed by someone else, and is happiest with finger foods). Only after he had eaten all the broccoli on the table did we realize that he wasn't swallowing. He kept giggling at us and we could see the mouth stuffed with broccoli behind his teeth. We were worried that he would choke if he tried to swallow it all at once, especially once he was out of his high chair and cruising around. But, any time we tried to clear some out he clamped his lips together and shook his head. About 45 minutes later he had swallowed it all and we could relax. Here he is with his broccoli filled grin:
