Here Ian is taste testing the lovely french toast with strawberries and whipped cream that he made me for Mother's Day (with a little help from Daddy):
He also got me tickets to "Wait, wait, don't tell me!", my favorite radio show, which is coming to Chapel Hill next month. What a thoughtful little boy!
Our mother's day celebration was good but brief in the midst of a very crazy few weeks. Doug prepared a proposal for and got the biggest contract kDy has had yet, and also hired a new employee. This morning he left at 5am for Texas, where he will spend the week installing a server for a huge automated mailing system. Meanwhile I am in the (hopefully) final stage of a complex high-pressure analysis at work that kept me working much of the weekend -- I hung out with Ian on Saturday while Doug worked, he took Ian out with him on Sunday while I worked. Simultaneously, Greg just finished his first workshop, which was a success. The walls of the house are really progressing quickly. As a result, he missed his Uncle days today and last Monday. In the middle of that, we closed on the sale of our house, which involved some work getting the last few things out of the garage, but overall went smoothly. It's a good thing we simplified our life, because work and Ian really is all we can handle right now!
As all this swirls around him, Ian continues to grow and acquire new skills. We expect him to be walking soon (and following his buddy Jack at daycare, who is now walking all around the room). He has started standing without support for short periods of time, and we think that as soon as he realizes he's doing it, he might start taking some steps. He continues to be very vocal as well, and has started saying "duck!" when we look at his duckling book (this is on hiatus at the moment while we replace the duckling book, which the dogs consumed yesterday). We're just starting to get a glimpse of his personality, and the little boy he will become!

Duck is a good word to add to one's vocabulary early. One of my favorite families of birds! Clever Ian:)
Now, as for the little boy he will become-- holy cow can the kid cook for under a year old. I'm pretty jealous. It took me like thirty years to get there. Let him keep banging those pots and pans in the kitchen, obviously he is a fast learner!
