A Little Fame for a Little Boy
Last Thursday, Ian became slightly famous in Durham. As we have discussed our childcare situation over the past few months, we have toyed with the idea of starting something with other parents that would provide what we are looking for. When I found out two weeks ago that Ian would not get into my third and final choice for decent childcare in Durham, I decided to take a little step and see if there were any other parents interested. I wrote down my ideas and posted messages to the neighborhood association listservs for the neighborhoods that surround us. I was excited to get several responses from parents who were interested. Then Durham's popular news site saw my post on the listserv and informed me (just a few hours ahead of time) that they were releasing an article about us. Within 10 minutes of its posting, I had already gotten a call from a co-worker about it. And so our (and Ian's) day of fame began. On Saturday, someone approached me at the farmer's market saying, "aren't you that family that is trying to start the childcare co-op, I recognize you from the article". This was shocking, because the only photo of us is in the "about me" section in a website that is linked to by the article. So apparently Ian's little face is now known around Durham : ) Hopefully something good will come of it (in particular, a childcare environment for him to grow in that we will be more at peace with).

Wow! Reading the comments is very interesting. It's funny what some of the posters assumed about you before Doug's (very good) post. Good Luck!!
Wow! I really hope you get this started - sounds great.
I did click over to the article (have to keep up with Durham news of course) and I found the comments hysterical (but really liked Doug's response).
