Occasionally, I have to go on the road for work. This past week, kDy has been in Dallas. I am sure there are some nice, interesting parts of Dallas. This, however, is not one. It's just mile after mile of industrial parks, strip malls, chain retail, and vacant lots.
To make matters worse, I am working way too hard (21 hours on Wednesday alone!), and hitting lots of frustrations along the way. At first, I judged the untimely demise of my laptop on Tuesday morning to be the cake-taker. However, my need to buy an off-the-shelf laptop at Best Buy yielded a hidden benefit: a built-in webcam, which is not something I would normally look for in a business machine.
The relationship between all of the foregoing and The Life of Ian is: SKYPE!

I'm not sure Ian knew he was having his picture taken, but I figured I would snap a few, albeit low-res, pictures to post on the blog.
His attention is definitely drawn to the screen, but I'm not certain he recognizes me (though, on the receiving end, it is my image that is large and his that is small, if you have never Skyped before). I'm sure Elaine will vehemently disagree (she is certain that Ian recognizes his grandparents, both sets of which regularly Skype with him), but I don't think he recognizes us the way he does in person. These days, whenever I walk in, Ian's face lights up in a smile and he crawls toward me at warp speed. His reactions aren't nearly as strong over Skype. Still, I am just happy to be able to see him from a distance. It always brings a smile to my face.
But alas, all good things must come to an end. The factory that you can see in the background beckons, and so Elaine and I are modeling how we use our "two small hands that wave 'Bye-Bye!'" (extra credit if you are familiar with the children's book from which I drew that quote).

Your taste in literature always leaves me stumped. Glad your new laptop comes with some perks!
