Settling In

Our Macintosh has a hard disk error (again), so the blog may be sparser for a few days until we get it back up and running.

In the last couple of days, we've started to settle in a little. Now I can actually sometimes anticipate what Ian will do next. There is a pattern of eat, be alert for a while, sleep, poop, eat. The eating part is going very well, and we were happy to see this morning that Ian has started to gain weight back. On Sunday, he was down to 8 lbs, 14 oz (from 9 13 at birth), but today he weighed in at 9 lbs 5 ounces. Go Ian!

As cute as he is while he is sleeping or nursing, it's most fun to watch him when he's alert. He's able to hold his head up for a few seconds at a time and look around. He likes to look at windows, probably because of the light. It always appears that he is looking around and studying things closely, and he makes tons of different expressive faces -- I'll post a little video when the Mac's back.

Today we stopped at the birth boutique after the birth center. We got a demonstration of how to use the sling, and I've been practicing since we got home. Ian seems blissfully content slung snugly across my front, and I love being able to have him close with hands free. At the boutique, we saw another woman with a baby in a carrier. Compared to Ian, he was enormous. I asked her how old he was, expecting her to say 6 or 7 months -- he was only 3 months old! She did say he was big for his age, but he was smaller than Ian at birth. This made me realize how quickly Ian will grow. We'll try to enjoy this short period while he's a newborn while we can!
