Old Friends

Last night I had the pleasure of getting a chance to catch up with old friends. Amanda and Nicole, both best friends of mine starting in elementary school, met Ian and I at the playground, then we went out to dinner sans kiddos. (Unfortunately we were missing the presence of some other members of our group, but we take what we can get when we're all spread around the country). Amanda is the brave mother of three children, the oldest of whom is just 3 1/2. The older ones had a good time playing on the playground (the slide is still fun the 101st time!) while we hung out with the little ones and talked.

We spent quite a while (at least 4 hours) sitting in Friendly's catching up. Our animated waiter remarked several times, "it really has been a long time since you girls saw each other, hasn't it?". Well, yes, it has. It is good to see your friends grown up as mothers and career women, but it's also good to see that some things never change. Before we went home, we wanted to get a picture of the three of us. Since I don't really know how to do anything with my camera (like set the timer), we had to use the camera-at-arms-length method. It's a little tricky, but made for a fun experience.

We did at least get one photo that looks reasonable:

Here's to old friends.
