Yummy!

Today Ian had his four month checkup. The thirty minutes we spent there were quite eventful. We went through four diapers, he sprayed the examination table with urine, he spit up on the wall, and he ripped up the paper, taking some with him as a souvenir as we went out the door. Oh, and he saw the nurse, too (Ian sees a nurse practitioner rather than a doctor). He giggled at her while we talked, and showed off his skills. He is doing very well developmentally, and is still tracking at the same percentiles on the growth chart: 95th for weight (18 lbs 9 oz), 97th for height (27 inches), and 75th for head circumference.

I talked with the nurse about Ian's new (non-)sleeping habits. That is, the fact that he stopped sleeping through the night about 6 weeks ago and now wakes up every two hours to nurse (or maybe it's not to nurse, but that's how I get him to go back to sleep). She suggested that he may be big enough now to need solids to get through the night. So tonight Ian had his first solid food. Well, a little bit solid. It was rice cereal mixed in milk. It went quite well. He seemed very happy about it, and even helped guide the spoon into his mouth once he figured out what was going on.

Here it comes . .

Yum!

All full!

After this messy endeavor, he was immediately taken up for a bath . . .

Yes... but did he sleep through the night?

He looks so much like his dad in the bottom photo! The resemblance is getting stronger if anything.

I hope solids help with the sleeping. It is great that he is so consistent on the growth chart. Small head compared to his body, huh? I'm just joking. Head growing too rapidly is not a good thing apparently sometimes so better it be a in the 70th percentile than 99th like everything else about your big boy. I feel better that some of the 24 month clothes I am buying may actually come in useful before summer.

Looking ahead to teeth - The first tooth was the lower central incisor on Feb 20, 1980, so just one day before her 6 mo birthday.
