2 Months Old

Ian turned 2 months old yesterday. He has grown up a lot since birth, both physically and developmentally. At this point he seems quite social, and definitely responds to people who are paying attention to him (by smiling, laughing, and saying "goo"). His "talking" has been developing as he tries out more sounds and expressions. He's still on the initial set of consonants, though (/g/, /c/). (He does clearly say "ah-goo" which is listed on our developmental checklist at 5 months, so we think he must be brilliant :) ).

When he is in new places, he looks all around to see his surroundings. He can hold his head up well in order to do this. He lifts it to a 90 degree angle with the floor during tummy time. His legs are also quite strong, and he can push himself up into a stand and support his body weight himself, requiring us just to keep him from falling sideways. He seems to pay some attention to books, and is quite attentive to the Fuzzy Bee and Friends book, which is very colorful. He will sit through all of One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish (which is almost 75 pages long!), although he doesn't look at the book as intently as he does with Fuzzy Bee.

Our favorite Ian skill is, of course, his smiling and laughing. He has been doing this since 3.5 weeks, but he does it much more interactively and frequently now. The last several nights he has slept for 7 hours (12-7), and can now get himself to sleep if he's full and I'm in the room. Yesterday he started making sounds with saliva (yes, gross, but this is an official developmental milestone according to one of our books!), buzzing his slobbery lips (you can see that his face is wet from this in some of the photos below). He also has his new mystery skill, which is yet to be announced by video :)
