Tomorrow will be my first day back at work. I've elected to go back earlier than I originally planned, which will allow us to make a more gradual transition. I have three weeks of leave remaining (which becomes 6 weeks of half-time leave), and then I will be using my vacation time to shorten my hours for the remainder of the year.
So the plan is:
now - end of October 20 hours/week (2pm-6pm daily)
November - end of year 30 hours/week (12pm-6pm daily)
While I'm at work, I'll be dropping Ian off with Doug for DaddyCare. We're hoping this will work out, meaning that Ian is getting the attention he needs and Doug is able to get some work done. Doug is in the habit of going in to work quite early in the morning, so he should get a good chunck of his work day in before Ian arrives. Still, this will be a demanding schedule for us (and it's not as if we have extra time now!), and we're prepared to consider other options if necessary.
So far, it seems like the childrearing has gone fairly smoothly. Returning to work will give us a better idea of what our new life as parents will really be like. I've heard that the first few weeks back at work can be as challenging as the first weeks after the baby is born, so I'm prepared for some difficulty. If the blog lies silent this week, you'll know that we're busy!

Don't forget that I'm available every other Friday. Please don't be afraid to ask for help. I would love to spend some time with that gorgeous boy!!
Hope it went smoothly. Katrina refused to take a bottle from Grandma so they ended up bringing her to me every time she wanted to eat for the first week. Good thing they lived close enough to where I was working!
I'll be praying for you guys extra hard this week!Let me know how it goes! miss you!
