Lucky Me
Ian and I went to a seminar on Thursday about returning to work for nursing mothers. It was very helpful. We were talking about finding a place to pump, storing milk, dealing with co-workers, etc. There were five women in the class (it so happened that all our babies were boys). As I listened to their situations, I realized how lucky I am. BD recently opened a mother's room (as one of the two most pregnant women in the building, I got to cut the ribbon). It is convenient, private (only mothers have the key), has computerized signup for times, has a rocking chair, fridge, iPod speaker, etc. I am also fortunate to have a very flexible and supportive boss, and wonderful co-workers. I was surprised to hear that many women were being pressured by family or friends to start the baby on formula, which made me appreciate having a supportive husband and family, too. I can see that some women persist in nursing through very difficult situations (like being the only female corrections officer in an all male prison!), but I'm glad it won't be quite so hard for us!
